Recommendations for improving Further Education intervention were made by Dame Mary Ney, the National Audit Office (NAO), and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and set out that require building an empathetic understanding of the challenges facing colleges and facilitating creativity in their solutions. My team at the ESFA in DfE were asked to work collaboratively with FEC Support and Intervention colleagues and the FE Commission to bring a user-centred design approach to help solve some of the challenges of moving to an offer of ‘active support’.
